He was a formidable "weekend warrior" for 11 years befor joining the ranks of professional drag racing in 1966. With major sponsorship from the Bardahl Company, a manufacturer of automotive lubricants, Bill quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with in AHRA (American Hot Rod Association) competition. At the close of his professional career, which only lasted a relatively short 6-1/2 years, Bill had won 37 major AHRA championship race-nine of them in one year-and had been crowned AHRA World Champion seven times! The most famous of Bill's Camaro duo was the one equipped with a dual-quad 427 and 4-speed transmision.
